Early Years Foundation Stage
Early Years
At Walsh Memorial CE Infant School our Early Years children have an exciting time learning, exploring, making friends and having lots of fun.
Our curriculum and provision fully comprises of the three characteristics of effective learning: Active Learning, Play and Exploration and Creating and Thinking Critically.
Our children work with an adult for some whole class and group sessions as well as on a one to one basis. They have a balance of child led learning and focused work with an adult. Learning through play is a key thread throughout, both indoors and outdoors. We use topics to plan the children’s learning and we always try to include the particular interests of the children whenever possible.
The children have constant access to our wonderful outside learning where a member of staff is always present to support and develop the children’s learning.
In Early Years we follow the Jolly Phonics scheme for teaching and learning phonics. Please see Early Years Learning Zone for links to support your children at home.
